Sumaridge Estate Wines, proudly owned by the Bellingham Turner family, lies gracefully between two imposing mountain ranges in the Western Cape’s Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley - aptly named “Heaven and Earth” - with commanding views stretching to Walker Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. The cool maritime breezes add a touch of magic to our grapes...

At Sumaridge, each cultivar has its own specifically chosen site. Our vineyard management respects and works in harmony with natural assets that include a superb array of flora and fauna. The perfect marriage of exceptional location, climate and soil, coupled with expert wine crafting, gives birth to signature wines that are distinctively elegant, ample in body and complex in flavour.

Simon Turner, and his wife Holly Bellingham, bought the estate in 2008, having been lucky enough to enjoy a family holiday home in Hermanus for some years. Holly's pseudonym is Mrs @Sumaridge

Holly and Simon divide their time between South Africa and their home in Suffolk.

“We are very lucky to be able to spend much time in Hermanus, but, at the same time, be based in England, which enables Holly and I to spearhead marketing, sales and client liaison outside Africa.” Said Simon!

“Following the swallow” is an expression often used to describe Europeans lucky enough to enjoy a second home in South Africa...but Simon and Holly, a former director of ITFC, are both dedicated “tractor boys” so the South African summer sometimes has to play second fiddle to the football season!

Since joining Sumaridge in 2005 as both winemaker and viticulturist, leading a team of about 35 staff.  Gavin Patterson has remained steadfastly committed to his philosophy of maintaining a balance with nature.  This carries through to our wines, which have a distinct sense of place and reflect the natural beauty of our terroir.  This is borne out by the impressive number of prestigious local and international awards our wines have accumulated since Gavin joined Sumaridge.
