Having earned themselves battling draws against Cameroon and Germany, Mick McCarthy’s Rep of Ireland side have it within their grasp to progress from the group stages.
Both games saw Ireland come back from early setbacks to to draw level with displays of true determination and not a little skill that have won the Irishmen plaudits from around the world.
Prior to the start off the 2002 World Cup we polled a number of leading managers as to how they thought the ‘Boys in Green’ would fair - most agreed that the team spirit that Mick McCarthy has imbued his side with would stand them in good stead during their World Cup campaign.
