SIR ALEX TALKS EXCLUSIVELY TO LMA ABOUT FA CUP FINAL

Just days before the FA Cup Final, and amidst Malcolm Glazers take over of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson took time out to share his thoughts with Sue McCann for the LMA website.

ON SHOWING THE GLAZER FAMILY WHAT MANCHESTER UNITED ARE ALL ABOUT
"I don't know if they'll be there, but they'll be watching from the States I'm sure of that. It'll give them an idea what Manchester Utd is. And when, hopefully, they see our fans celebrating and see the atmosphere of that, it’ll be wonderful"

ON WAYNE ROONEY
“He’s similar to Paul Scholes really...he just loves playing. He goes on that training field and the first thing he does is get a ball and batters it into the net ....and it batters over the top of my head! One of these days he'll hit me ...and he'll get killed! Scholes is the same.... I used to always be shouting "Scholes!" as balls whistled by my head and he'd reply "What?" - as if you're supposed to be doing that. Rooney’s exactly the same, he just loves being on that pitch. After training you'll see him, he gets the ball, he does free kicks, he's finishing all the time... the boy just loves playing. I always felt this was a player that could re-shape our future and that's the way it's looking at the moment."

ON THE MAGIC OF THE FA CUP
"I think the climax to a season makes it fitting (to play your closest rivals). It definitely increases the hackles on the back of your neck in the sense of "phew" we've got to play well. I wanted Arsenal in the semi-final last year as I thought if we got Millwall in the Final we could win. No disrespect to Millwall but we should be beating them. But it's unusual for you to win a Cup Final that way as you always think that Cup Finals are hard. This is a Cup Final against Arsenal ...and it's hard on Saturday."

ON WINNING THE FA CUP
"It means you win a piece of silver. I say every year if you win one trophy then don't be greedy and I stick by that. If you look at the game historically you've got 8 great clubs in the country who expect to win trophies. They all can't win them so to win a bit of silverware each year is a feat...and you shouldn't underestimate that. If we win the FA Cup and make it twelve for the club it'll be a wonderful achievement.
