On 17 March 2015, Holden was appointed manager at Oldham Athletic.  He had joined the club in November of the prveious year as first team coahc, his first coaching position since retiring from playing in 2012.

Holden's playing career includes clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Oldham Athletic, Falkirk and Walsall.  He achieved a League 2 winners medal with Chesterfield in the 2010/11 season.  Holden was capped for Northern Ireland.
