Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho capped an excellent January for highflying Chelsea by winning the award for Barclays Premiership Manager of the Month.

January saw Chelsea win four consecutive matches without conceding a goal, which strengthened their grip at the top of the table.

A 1-0 win on New Years Day at Liverpool was followed by a 2-0 victory at home over Middlesbrough. A 2-0 win at Spurs was then rounded off by comfortable 3-0 defeat of Portsmouth.

"Chelsea had a blistering start to 2005 " said the Barclays Awards Panel's Nic Gault.
