Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell has been named Barclays Premiership Manager of the Month for the second time in a row. Jewell clinched the October award thanks to Wigan's run of four victories, without conceding a goal, a run that took them to second in the Barclays Premiership. The Latics have the best defence in the top flight, having conceded only five goals in 11 games. They won three matches at home, Bolton Wanderers (2-1), Newcastle Utd (1-0) and Fulham (1-0), whilst winning 2-0 at Aston Villa. David O'Leary is the only other manager to have won the award in consecutive months, when he was with Leeds in 2001. Jim Hytner, from the Barclays Awards Panel, said: "It's terrific to see Wigan leading the chasing pack behind Chelsea, they have been a breath of fresh air in the Barclays Premiership. "Paul Jewell has secured the points on the pitch and he's now winning plaudits off it."
