Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been named Barclays Manager of the Month for April after his side recorded three successive away wins in the Barclays Premiership and spent the entire month unbeaten in the league. Aston Villa enjoyed their travels last month with victories at Blackburn (1-2), Middlesbrough (1-3) and Manchester City (0-2). Such strong away form was complimented by solid home draws against Everton (1-1), Wigan (1-1) and Portsmouth (0-0). This is the first monthly award Martin O'Neill has picked up since November 1999 when he was manager at Leicester City. O'Neill has now been named Manager of the Month four times. Jim Hytner, from the Barclays Awards Panel, said: "Martin O'Neill has made a terrific impact in his first season back in the Barclays Premiership. He's built a team full of young talent that is becoming increasingly hard to beat, no more so than in April. Three successive away wins also demonstrate that his Villa side combines a solid defence with real threat in attack."
