Wolverhampton Wanderers' Mick McCarthy has picked up the first managerial award of the new season after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for August. McCarthy's side have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with three wins and a draw from their opening four league fixtures. They began their campaign with a well earned point away at Plymouth Argyle and followed that up with home wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest and three points away at Ipswich Town. This means McCarthy's men sit top of the table going into September. Chris Kamara, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "It's been a brilliant start for Mick. His team have been scoring goals for fun, especially at Molineux, and being able to field Kightly and Jarvis in the starting line-up has been crucial. Wolves have never had this good a start, and the challenge for them now will be to sustain it throughout the campaign."
