Torquay United manager Ian Atkins has been named Coca-Cola League 2 Manager of the Month for April. Atkins only took over the managerial reins at Plainmoor mid-way through April at a time when Torquay United were five points adrift of League 2 safety. He has since engineered a remarkable turnaround at the club, guiding them to a four game winning streak, which included a 4-0 home win over Stockport County as well as victory at promoted Carlisle United. This fine run of form has helped lift the Gulls out of the relegation places and close to guaranteeing their Football League status next season. Chris Kamara, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "The way in which Ian Atkins has turned things round at Torquay is nothing short of remarkable. He took over last month when they were well adrift of safety and given five games to keep the club in the Football League. I'm not sure even he could have dreamt of recording four victories on the bounce but his side's achievement is testament to all the hard work he has put in over the past few weeks."
