The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Thames River Performance of the Week Award should go to Manchester United following their excellent 6-1 away win against Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday 23rd October 2011.
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday on 29th October 2011.
Manchester City inflicted Manchester United's worst home defeat since February 1955 as they moved five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League at Old Trafford.
City led just 1-0 at half-time, courtesy of a Mario Balotelli strike and when United were reduced to 10 men after Jonny Evans was sent off early in the second half, the visitors went on to dominate the rest of the match.
Balotelli soon added his second, doubling City’s lead before Sergio Aguero added a third. Darren Fletcher did pull a goal back for the hosts, only to be followed by a late surge that brought three more goals through an Edin Dzeko brace and a David Silva solo effort.
After the match, Mancini was delighted with the performance and result;
"I am satisfied because we beat United away. I don't think there are a lot of teams that can win here. This is important for our squad and I am happy for the three points, but in the end it is three points - we don't take six points." |
