Steve Parkin has earned respect at all levels of football after reforming the image of lowly Rochdale and helping to establish Hull City in the Premier League.

An England Under 21 international as a player, Parkin is currently first team coach at Hull where he influenced the club's first-ever promotion to the top flight and waged a successful battle against relegation.

Mansfield-born Steve launched his management career with his hometown club while still a player at Field Mill. He was team captain when he was given the reins, initially as caretaker, in 1996.

Parkin stayed at the helm for three seasons and twice put Mansfield in play-off contention, bagging two manager of the month awards in the process.

He began the first of two spells at Rochdale in the summer of '99. The perennial strugglers emerged as promotion challengers. After finishing eighth in his first season, he built a team that reached the play-offs shortly after he was lured to Barnsley in November, 2001.

At Oakwell, Parkin suffered the financial fall-out from the club's descent from a fairytale season in the Premier League and left the Yorkshire club to bounce back as assistant manager of Notts County.

He returned to Spotland in 2003, staving off relegation from the League and inspiring a bid for the play-offs in his second season.

After a three-year second reign with Rochdale, Steve joined Phil Brown's management team at Hull in January, 2007. The Tigers were promoted to the Premier League the following season to ensure top flight football for the first time in the club's 104-year existence.

Hull then beat Fulham 2-1 on the opening day of the 2008-09 season. They also achieved notable victories over Arsenal and Tottenham in making a fine start to their Premier League adventure which ended in Hull securing their place in the Barclays Premier League on the final day of the season.

After the departure of Phil Brown in March 2010, Parkin took caretaker charge of Hull City with Brian Horton before reverting back to first-team coach after the appointment of Iain Dowie.

Parkin's playing career, which was ultimately cut short by injury, featured spells with Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion. He was also a long-standing member of the LMA management committee until 2010.
