PGA CATALUNYA
The PGA Catalunya Resort claims an unrivalled pedigree. Employing leading golf course designers and architects, the owners have created two stunning golf courses and over 13,700 yards of world-class golf. PGA Catalunya is one of the very few top-flight golf courses in Southern Europe with property for sale. It will appeal to golfing enthusiasts looking to invest in property on one of the world’s great courses, in a region with a perfect climate for golf. Easily accessible for both leisure and business, the resort creates the ideal setting.
Stadium Course
This world class golf resort includes the Stadium Course, which is consistently rated in the top 10 courses in Europe and second in Spain. It has hosted 11 European Tour Championships, including the 2009 Spanish Open. The beauty of the course is known to distract and do serious damage to golfers’ scorecards and it is this quality that keeps players returning time and again to perfect their skills. With trees along the fairways, strategically placed bunkers and lakes that come into play on no fewer than seven of the toughest holes, it is rare to find so many memorable holes on one course. Despite the many ups and downs, tees are elevated and very few fairways are uphill. It is a course providing the perfect mix for a fulfilling and rewarding game.
Tour Course
For the more casual player looking for a relaxed game, the equally beautiful, Tour course – designed by Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles will surely appeal. The PGA Catalunya architects Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles have achieved 25 years of golf design knowledge and experience on the European circuit, ensuring the Tour course remains exhilarating for every level of player.
Spanish Open 2000
After hosting the Spanish Open in 2000, top class golf returned in 2009 as PGA Catalunya hosted the prestigious Spanish Open on its award-winning Stadium Course. The Spanish Open 2009 was a great success both in terms of participation with a number of great players and a turnout of over 40,000 spectators. Some of the finest golfers such as John Daly, Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Levet and Miguel Angel Jimenez provided spectators with an intense and dramatic tournament.
PGA Catalunya has hosted a number of other professional events such as the Sarazen World Open in 1999, and the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage 2008 and 2009. Prestigious amateur tournaments have included the Spanish International Men’s Championship, the Copa S.M. El Rey (The King’s Cup) in 2001 and the Spanish International Junior Boys’ Championship in 2007.
Facilities
With such a number of distinguished golfing events, PGA Catalunya certainly deserves its reputation for great golf along with top golfing facilities. Their new Resort Clubhouse, opened in 2008, was created by leading Catalan architects Francisco and Damian Ribas – www.franciscoribasarquitecto.com ¬- combining classic Catalan style with the very latest thinking in facilities and services with the needs of both players and corporate visitors in mind. The clubhouse’s location and its features were instrumental in redefining the architecture Francisco and Danian Ribas created. In the clubhouse these aspects were manifested mainly in the materials chosen such as painted stucco, and wood and tile interiors. The large members’ lounge, with bar and spectacular fireplace provides a private space for members to relax in its elegant surroundings as well as opportunities to dine in the Clubhouses well-reviewed bistro and restaurant. The resort’s exclusive sports club will include a gym, two swimming pools, tennis court and a football pitch as well as a vast range of relaxation therapies and beauty treatments. PGA Catalunya’s limited membership guarantees that their members enjoy the very highest levels of quality and service.
