The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Southampton following their excellent 4-0 victory against Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday 26th  December 2015.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

Southampton manager, Ronald Koeman, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Koeman’s side collect their second LG Performance of the Week award of the season having previously beaten current champions Chelsea back in October and they again demonstrated their self-belief when competing with the Premier League heavyweights with a convincing win against one of the league’s in-form sides.

The home side took the lead after 19 minutes with a superb long range strike from Cuco Martina, on his first league start for Southampton.

The Saints then ran away with the game in the second half with an electrifying and clinical performance as Shane Long struck either side of a Jose Fonte header to bring an end to Southampton’s run of five Premier League matches without a win.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman said: "You don't expect a 4-0 win against Arsenal. Of course we have a good football team, but we have struggled in recent weeks. But the second half was perfect. It was a tough night for Arsenal, we caused them a lot of problems. It was an amazing result."
