Peter Taylor has said that he would be honoured to work for England again following his departure from Filbert Street.
The former Leicester, Gillingham and England under-21 boss enjoyed being part of Sven-Goran Eriksson's coaching staff last season, having taken temporary charge of the national team with Steve McClaren for the friendly against Italy last October, but relinquished his coaching role with England to concentrate all his energies on The Foxes' Premiership campaign after concern in Leicester at the dip in form after the team's fantastic start to the season.
Steve McClaren has come under similar pressure at Middlesbrough this season with regard to his involvement with the England camp, despite having received support from his chairman, and reports suggeted he would have to break off from training with the players this week to return to The Riverside at some point.
The FA have dismissed such speculation however, as an official spokesman said earlier today: "Steve McClaren will not be leaving the England squad to go back to Middlesbrough ahead of the game on Saturday."
Taylor had already been approached about returning to the position he held in 1998 as England's under-21 coach but rejected the offer to carry on with his career as a Premiership manager with Leicester.
He admitted this week though that his involvement with the national team had always given him an enormous feeling of pride and has not ruled out a return to the fold should another offer from Eriksson or the FA come his way.
"It has always been an honour to work at international level and I don't feel any different now," he said.
"I don't know what the future holds and I would not close any doors at this stage. I just want to get back into football and quickly."
"If, in a couple of weeks time, they want me to help out watching players or go to watch teams and help like that, then I would be willing to lend a hand.
"I would be interested in something like that in the current interim period between jobs if it got me out watching matches."
However, Taylor is determined to get back into full-time management or coaching as soon as possible, as he admitted:
"In an ideal world, I would like to get my future sorted out as quickly as I can. I enjoy the day-to-day involvement with players more than anything and would like to get back into things as soon as possible."
Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed that he had spoken to his former assistant following the news of his dismissal at the weekend but that they had not discussed Taylor returning to the national team set-up.
"I talked to Peter Taylor on Sunday evening,' the England manager said, 'but we didn't talk about his future."
