DEFLECTED GOAL HANDS UNITED VICTORY

Leaguemanagers.com spoke to both managers after Manchester United's 1-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford, where the visitors were unfortunate not to take a point from the Premiership leaders.

"And we never really looked like scoring you know. We've had an element of luck about the goal.

"I thought we were reasonably comfortable although they had a go without really threatening us, so I'm pleased.

"Sometimes you have to have performances that are not up to the standard that you normally have but you churn the result out because your opponents have made it difficult for you."

The result leaves Everton in 15th place, with four points separating them from the relegation zone. However, the Manchester United manager believes they will pull clear of danger.

"They're fighting for their lives," he said. "Being at the bottom of the league is not an easy situation for a club like Everton and I don't think they'll be there long.

"I think once they get their players back, Walter Smith's team will move up the table."
