All was bright on the southern front for Peter Taylor after his side's 3-1 victory over Division Two leaders Reading on Monday night.
After his ill-fated substitute appearance in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Oldham, The Seagull's least secret weapon Bobby Zamora returned to the starting line-up to score Brighton's first goal and set up their other two in what proved to be an excellent victory for Albion over their main championship rivals.
Speaking on BBC radio after the game, Brighton boss Peter Taylor agreed that it had been a superb performance by his players.
"Yes, excellent 90 minutes. I was very pleased with the display and I think we deserved the three points," he said.
There had been initial concern that the top-of-the-table clash may fall victim to the weather after heavy rain on the south coast but the former Leicester boss paid tribute to the ground staff at the Withdean Stadium for preparing a surface that was surprisingly playable on.
"Well it played a lot, lot better than we all thought because we really did think the game was going to be off," Taylor admitted.
"But the pitch was much better and they did a lot of work in the summer and they said 'this time last year the game would have been off'."
Fortunately for Taylor and his team, the game went ahead and proved to be an ideal opportunity for Bobby Zamora to show exactly why he has attracted the interest of a number to Premiership clubs this season.
Having come off the bench only to be sent off in the closing stages of Saturday's game against Oldham, Taylor said the 21-year-old striker had responded in exactly the way he had hoped.
"Yeah, he has. He was actually very, very good tonight. He looked nice and fit.
"I think leaving him out might have freshened him up a touch and I think he was very determined to do well because of what happened on Saturday," Taylor added.
"He's a great lad, he got a great goal and of course he made the second and third as well."
The third goal was in fact scored by Brighton debutant Junior Lewis, the player Taylor signed from Leicester City having previously brought him in to Filbert Street as Foxes boss.
Taylor admitted that his main aim had been not to lose against Alan Pardew's table-toppers but he added: "To get the three points and, I thought, a very convincing display as well, was terrific for us.
"It's done us the power of good, that's a cert, so we're happy - coming off the back of the game on Saturday – we're very pleased with a nice win."
The victory keeps Brighton hot on the heels of Reading, who could have opened up a seven-point lead had the result been reversed. Taylor's team are now four points behind The Royals with a game in hand, setting up what looks like being a tight finish in Division Two this season.
