Peter Taylor has quit as manager of Brighton and Hove Albion after leading the club to promotion as the champions of the Nationwide League Division Two.
Taylor, joined The Seagulls in October 2001, less than three weeks after being dismissed as Leicester City boss. He replaced Micky Adams as the Albion manager after Adams joined The Foxes as assistant to Dave Bassett, who succeeded Taylor at Filbert Street.
Losing just six of their 40 games under Taylor's reign, Brighton stormed to the Second Division title, but the former England under-21, Gillingham and Leicester boss never signed a contract with the club and has chosen to walk away just over six months after taking charge at the Withdean Stadium.
It has been rumoured that Taylor may take up another position with England having previously worked as a coach under Sven-Goran Eriksson and taken charge of the team prior to the Swede's arrival, for England's friendly against Italy in October 2001.
However, Taylor revealed that doubts about the club's future in terms of their plans for a new stadium had played a major part in his decision to leave.
"It was the lack of the future being clear because of the new stadium," he said.
"I'm very frustrated to be going because Brighton with a new stadium would be one of the best jobs in the world, and it would be nice to see all our supporters in the stadium.
"But everyone keeps telling me it is three years away again."
With regard to his future, Taylor's agent Peter Mills said: "Peter has no definite offer at the moment. He will consider his position over the next couple of months."
He added: "It's not a strange time to resign, it's a brave one.
"He didn't want speculation surrounding him week after week, linking him with various jobs. He didn't want to come across as mercenary, this is not about Peter Taylor or his contract with Brighton." managers/cv/10/Peter%20Taylor.htmlClick here to see Peter Taylor's managerial profile
