HORNETS FANS NAME THEIR MAN

Watford fans have voted Peter Taylor as the man they would like to see as Gianluca Vialli's successor.

Vialli was dismissed during the World Cup after a disappointing season at Vicarage Road, and the Hertfordshire outfit are still searching for a new manager.

Hornets fans see the former Brighton boss as the ideal candidate after the job he did with the Seagulls in his time there, having been dismissed early last season by Leicester City.

Taylor led Brighton to the Nationwide League Division Two title after taking over from Micky Adams - now Leicester manager - who left the South coast club to become assistant to Taylor's successor at Filbert Street, Dave Bassett.

Soon after winning the Second Division championship, Taylor - voted by his peers as the division's manager of the year - left Brighton, citing differences of opinion on the future of the club.

In a poll of supporters, conducted in the Watford Observer newspaper, as to who they would like to see in charge next season, Taylor received 26.5% of the vote.

The Hornets reserve team coach Ray Lewington is in temporary charge of the team, but fans are eager to see a more experienced man at the helm.

Lewington, the former Brentford boss, received just 1.5% of the votes cast, despite being seen as one of the favourites for the job.

Speaking about the vacant post and the fans' favoured potential incumbent, Hornets chief executive Tim Shaw said: "We will wish to interview a number of candidates for the position and so this will take some time, but I can think of nobody that I would rather have help us in these circumstances."
