TAYLOR GETS BACK TO BASICS

After England's positive display in Turin this week, caretaker coach Peter Taylor got back to his familiar role with Leicester yesterday, but took time to reflect on his England experience.

The Foxes boss arrived for training with Leicester just hours after jetting in from Italy, having managed just four hours sleep following the Turin encounter.

The former England under-21 coach was tired but enthusiastic as he prepared his Premiership side for this weekend's trip to Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.

Once he settles back into his domestic duties, Taylor hopes to consult incoming coach Sven-Goran Eriksson to review international issues.

He commented: "I saw Sven very briefly at the end. He was in a hurry to get off, but I will speak to him at length at some stage over the phone."

He went on to explain his pride at leading England on this occasion, saying: "It was a most enjoyable experience for me. Most people got things out of the game, although I felt we should have had a penalty."

"Overall it was a marvellous experience. I was sitting there during the game thinking to myself 'I can't believe this. I am manager of England'."

Taylor also explained that he is happy to combine his roles with club and country in future, should the FA need him and provided he has the support of Leicester chairman John Elsom.

He added: "When I was with England before (at under-21 level) I used to take defeat badly because I wouldn't work with the players for the next two to three months."

"But I don't have that problem now. It is very easy to switch back because we need to concentrate on the game at Middlesbrough."

"I feel that any experience I gain with England will benefit me and help Leicester. I am sure it will make me a better manager. But as far as I am concerned there is no rush. I'm just happy getting on with my day job."

One of the most pleasing elements of the manager's first day back at work with Leicester was his greeting from Northern Ireland midfielder Neil Lennon.

Taylor explained: "Lennie came up and asked me 'Did you enjoy it gaffer; you should've enjoyed it'. I think it's good that my players respond like that."
