TAYLOR REPLACES MOLBY AT HULL

Peter Taylor has returned to management with Hull City after the club announced last night that Jan Molby had vacated his post at Boothferry Park.

Molby had his resignation offer rejected by the Hull board earlier in the week, however, he has now left The Tigers after just six months in charge following the team's disappointing start to the season.

Molby's men – installed as one the promotion favourites in the summer - had won just two of their 12 games leaving them in 18th position in Division Three.

The former Liverpool midfielder replaced Brian Little as Tigers boss in April this year having guided Kidderminster Harriers from the Nationwide Conference to the Football League in the previous season.

Hull's chairman Adam Pearson said yesterday: "Unfortunately it has not worked out. Results have not been good enough and Jan has left the club."

Peter Taylor has already been unveiled as Molby's successor and returns to management after a five-month break having resigned as manager of Brighton after guiding them to the Second Division Championship last season.

The former Southend, Gillingham and Leicester City boss, who has also worked with England as the under-21s coach and part of the senior side's coaching staff, has been helping out Barry Fry at Peterborough this season after Posh's difficult start to the campaign, but he is delighted to be returning to the hot-seat once again.

Speaking shortly after his appointment was announced, Taylor said: "I know Hull are in Division Three but they are much bigger than that - and everybody knows about the potential there. I'm very impressed with Adam Pearson as well. The first time I met him I thought that he would be a good chairman to work with."

The 49-year-old revealed on Sky Sports News that he will take training with Peterborough for the final time today and is looking forward to his move to Boothferry Park.

He said: "I'll take Peterborough training this morning - I'll probably get some stick from the Peterborough boys but they've been very good to me. But I'm sure the Hull boys will be the same when we get into training next week. I'll look at the team tomorrow (at home to Rochdale) and hopefully they'll respond in a positive way.

"I'll give all the players a chance - but I'll look at the team and see what needs improving. I'm looking forward to meeting the staff and seeing the players perform. I hope we have a positive start but Rochdale are a very good team."

Taylor added: "I've been fortunate - I've been involved with lots of levels but I've always wanted to be a long-term manager. I look at Hull and see a lot of potential. They're moving into a new stadium - the pictures look magnificent.

"I'm happy to work in football. It doesn't have to be the Premiership - I'm happy to work somewhere where there will be a positive finish and I want to get Hull much higher."
