Port Vale's Brian Horton has been named Nationwide Division Two Manager of the Month after guiding the Valiants to the top of the table in August.
Horton's side won four of their five league fixtures last month and gave a good account of themselves against First Division promotion contenders Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup – holding them to a draw before going out on penalties.
Vale opened their league campaign a 2-1 win over newly promoted Bournemouth, then, after their meeting with Forest, they beat Grimsby 2-1 and Colchester United 4-3 before surprisingly slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Hartlepool United, also newcomers to Division Two.
But the Valiants bounced straight back on the last Saturday in August to beat Brentford 1-0 at Vale Park, ending the month on a high, at the top of the table, and earning their manager the first award of the season.
Gary Megson won the award for Division One after taking the Baggies into an early lead at the top while Brian Flynn was named as August's top boss in Division Three for taking Swansea into first place.
