Sir Alex Ferguson has said that even a home defeat doesn't rule Manchester United out of the race for this year's UEFA Champions League title.
The Manchester United manager even feels his side can pull off an away coup in Bayern's Bavarian backyard without David Beckham, whose booking rules him out of the return fixture.
"Bayern will also be without two influential players and we'll have to make the most of that. We have to go over there and score an away goal. That will change everything," said the United boss.
Speaking after United's 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, Sir Alex said:
"It is not over. It is just half-time and we are not finished. I think we have a good chance and the worry for them is losing a goal."
"There's still a lot to play for," he added. "It's still open but it's still a difficult tie."
Despite admitting that United have an uphill battle, the Reds boss has hope that United can recover from a one-goal deficit in 90 minutes when they step out at the Olympicstadion in Munich after managing the same feat in 1999 when the two sides faced each other in the Nou Camp stadium in the final.
"We have the ability to go over there and score the goals and we can recover. We just have to make sure we perform properly," he declared.
"I didn't think we deserved to lose although they did improve in the second half and worked hard."
His Bayern counterpart Ottmar Hitzfeld has a comparable European pedigree and he accepted Ferguson's point when he refused to accept the tie is over after a home defeat.
"We played well and it's a very important result for us. But in football everything is possible and it is not finished. There is a second match and Manchester United can play well too," the German boss acknowledged.
