01 May 2001 PARKIN IN POLE AFTER BUSY MONTH
Steve Parkin has pulled off a feat that could turn into one of the most
amazing late-season surges in recent Nationwide League history, and he has been suitably rewarded with th Division Three Manager of the Month award for April.
’Dale have been taken to within two wins of the play-offs after a
month in which the team had to play eight times.
Paul Connor’s goals and superb all-round team efforts brought the club a total of 14 points from a possible 24. The results included a 6-0 hammering of
Carlisle United in which Connor scored a hat-trick.
The last two games of the season, a home-and-away double-header against
Plymouth Argyle, gives the team a chance to battle it out for promotion. A
remarkable feat whether they end up celebrating or seasick by the seaside on
Saturday 5 May.
A disappointing defeat to close rivals Blackpool dented 'Dales hopes of sneaking into the play-offs but having earned a narrow victory over Mansfield in their eighth game of the month, they have turned the pressure up on Steve McMahon's men once more and have the opportunity to decide their own fate in the last week of an incredible season.
