Reports have suggested that Alex Ferguson is on the verge of asking the Manchester United board to release some emergency funds for some new players to cover his injury hit side.
He is especially short of strikers, after discovering that Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha will be out for at least a month, as well as the news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be out for the rest of the season.
As it stands at the moment Ferguson still has new signing Alan Smith, and fringe players David Bellion and Diego Forlan, but the Scot admits he is not happy with the situation.
When asked whether he was planning to make any more additions to the squad before the transfer window closes, he replied: "I can't answer that one really, I'm not really sure of that. At the moment we are just taking stock of our situation.
"Ruud is a straightforward one, he should be back training certainly in a month and should be back playing in six weeks so we know the timescale there.
"As for Louis it's a bit more difficult to assess just when he's going to get back but we hope three weeks will see him back playing.
"He's able to do his preparation work and rehabilitation work at the moment without affecting his injury so when he gets back he should be straight into football training, we are hopeful of that.
"It's not a great situation to be in for us - obviously it would be preferable to have all your players but from time to time during the season you are always going to have players injured and we are in a bad spell at the moment."
