Russell Slade has been confirmed as Grimsby manager for the 2005/6 season.
The former Scarborough boss joined the Mariners in May 2004 and had a clause inserted in his deal that gave him automatic continuity if the club finished better than 12th.
However, the Board of Directors agreed that Slade was the right man for the job, Town are currently 11th, and felt the time was right to confirm his role.
Grimsby are only seven points off the play-offs and have enjoyed a good run of late losing just once in six games.
Whether the impetus can take Town on a late rush to the play-offs remains to be seen. But having turned the tide, Slade has not given up hope.
"That's the ultimate goal," he said. "To do that we would probably need 70 points, which would mean winning something like seven of our last 10 games.
"That's the sort of run we would need. If we don't do it we still want a high as a finish as possible to show how far we've come.
