Sir Alex Ferguson has lifted the first award of the 2006-07 League Managers Association Managers’ Performance League.
The Manchester United boss beat off the challenge of Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) and Cardiff City’s Dave Jones to take the opening quarterly award.United are top of the Premier League and boast a 100 per cent record in their Champions League qualifying group.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “I am delighted to win the opening award. This is a reflection on the great efforts our players have produced in the Barclays Premiership and the Champions League in the opening two months of the season.
“The LMA awards are an excellent competition which enable managers from all four divisions to test themselves against one another.”
John Barnwell, Chief Executive of the LMA, said: “Our awards are a new and unique system which assess managers’ performances throughout the season.
“There has been great competition in the first two months of the season with managers representing the Barclays Premiership, and Coca Cola Football League finishing in the top four positions.”
Under the unique points-scoring system which is managed by official LMA partners ProZone, managers collect points for victories, draws, clean sheets and goals scored.
In third place behind Ferguson (155 points) and Mourinho (149 points) is Dave Jones who has taken Cardiff to the top of the Football League Championship. Fourth came Walsall boss Richard Money who has steered the Saddlers into the promotion frame in League Two.
