NO AGE CONCERN IN TAYLOR'S WISE MOVE

Leicester City manager Peter Taylor believes Dennis Wise will prove to be a good example to his new team-mates when he leaves Stamford Bridge for Filbert Street next week.

Taylor has captured the 34-year-old for £1.6 million, bringing his 11 years with Chelsea to an end as The Foxes boss looks to strengthen his squad for next season.

Having worked with Wise in the England set-up, Taylor is well aware of his qualities and does not believe his age, or his disciplinary record, to be a problem.

"I have felt that I could do with the type of player that Dennis is and I have needed a bit of a leader out there on the pitch at times," he said.

"There were times with us last season when maybe there weren't enough leaders out on the pitch.

"Dennis would be a good example to people. I know he's had his disciplinary problems at times but he is a winner and will be a great asset. He's also still hungry to do well.

"The age factor was not a concern to me and you only have to look at how well people like Teddy Sheringham, Gary McAllister and Stuart Pearce have done well into their mid to late 30s.

"Dennis has looked after himself and if you look at his record down the years he has not missed many games."

Wise was also believed to have been targeted by his former Chelsea boss Gianluca Vialli at Watford but the mini-midfield man was keen to remain in the Premiership.

Despite 11 successful years at Stamford Bridge, many thought the arrival of Frank Lampard Jnr. could limit Wise's first-team opportunities next season under Claudio Ranieri, prompting his departure from the West End club.

He is due to be officially unveiled as a Leicester City player next week when Peter Taylor returns from his holiday.
