23 Feb 2010 COTTERILL NAMED AS COUNTY BOSS
Steve Cotterill has been confirmed as the new manager of Notts County.
A statement on the club website read;
"On a momentous day for Notts County Football Club, chairman Ray Trew is delighted to confirm that the club will not be placed into administration this season and that Steve Cotterill has been appointed as first team manager for the remainder of the current campaign."
Cotterill has experience at all levels of football, including non-league from where he emerged as both player and manager.
Since leading hometown Cheltenham into the Football League for the first time, Cotterill has managed or coached in all four divisions of the professional pyramid.
He achieved three promotions with Cheltenham where he had once been a striker in a playing career that took in Wimbedon and Bournemouth.
Cotterill, armed with the UEFA Pro Licence, was appointed by Stoke City before leaving for Sunderland shortly afterwards to take up a Premier League coaching opportunity under Howard Wilkinson.
Cotterill re-emerged as manager of Burnley in 2004 where he fought financial difficulties to keep the club respectably placed in the Championship throughout his reign.
When he departed Turf Moor by mutual consent in November, 2007, Burnley were challenging for the play-offs. At the time, he was the longest-serving current manager in the Championship after three years and seven months.
Cotterill had previous success in his first managerial post before joining Cheltenham. He finished third in the top flight of the League of Ireland with Sligo Rovers, who also reached the final of the League Cup and entered Europe where they managed commendable draws with the likes of Nantes and Heerenveen.
