RODGERS JOINS SWANSEA

Brendan Rodgers has been confirmed as the new manager of Swansea City.

Rodgers stated on the club website;

"It's a very proud moment for me. I'm very proud to become manager of Swansea City; a progressive club that plays the game the right way.

"My aim is continue that philosophy and help the club progress. I want to play offensive, attacking football, but with discipline.

"I will inherit a wonderful group of players and, if I can help them develop and improve, I will be very pleased.

"I've seen the passion of the Swansea fans for myself when I was here last season and I can assure them I've come here to be a winner.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge.''

Previously, Rodgers became the youngest manager in the Championship when he was appointed by Watford at the age of 35 in November, 2008.

After being headhunted from Chelsea, where he was a protégé of Jose Mourinho, Rodgers took on the challenge of saving a team from relegation.

He succeeded by a comfortable margin to secure his growing reputation as a young coach who carried Mourinho's personal recommendation.

He has since managed Reading before taking up this new post at the Liberty Stadium.
