04 May 2012 ROBERTO MARTINEZ NAMED BARCLAYS MANAGER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has been awarded the Barclays Manager of the Month Award for the first time in his managerial career after an outstanding April with the Latics, which included wins over three of the league’s top four teams.
Martinez’s men began the month with a narrow 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but bounced back brilliantly to seal an excellent 1-0 home win against current Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United.
The Latics followed up with an equally impressive 2-1 away win against an in-form Arsenal side at the Emirates, before ending the month with an emphatic 4-0 win at home to Champions League chasing Newcastle United – results that have lifted the club to 16th place in the Barclays Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone.
The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans. This is the first time that Roberto Martinez has won the Barclays Manager of the Month award.
