LMA
LEADERSHIP
SERIES
| EVENT 1
November saw the LMA
Institute of Leadership and
High Performance deliver its
first LMA Leadership Series
event of the season, held at
London’s National Gallery.
The event focused on continual personal development and
included keynote addresses from Dr Steve Bull and Mark
Spelman. Dr Bull, team psychologist to the 2005 England Ashes
winning squad and chartered psychologist for Team GB at
three Olympic Games, discussed management, leadership and
the importance of team culture. He drew on his first-hand
experience to make comparisons and share best practice in
aspects of leadership across all industries.
Mark Spelman, former global head of strategy at Accenture
and current digital lead at the World Economic Forum, explained
what the future of business and society is gearing towards
in the “fourth industrial revolution”. He discussed how more
companies are incorporating big data and real-time information
into their services, and the role of leaders in ensuring the
workforce is up-skilled to make use of the available technology.
The keynotes were followed by an insightful Q&A session, hosted
by Jeremy Snape, on what it takes to sustain success in elite
sport, featuring former Manchester United player and coach
Ryan Giggs and 2016 Olympic Gold winning GB hockey captain
Kate Richardson-Walsh. The discussion charted their respective
careers, the challenges they faced and how they overcame them
to build long and successful careers at the highest level.
Leadership & Management
I lead by example, I work
really hard and I push
myself out of my comfort
zone. I try to be the very
best version of myself
every day. If I can do that,
it gives me the right
to challenge everybody
else to bring the best of
themselves to training.
