BOBBY MOORE FUND

BOBBY MOORE FUND

The Bobby Moore Fund is committed to tackling bowel cancer.  Stephanie Moore MBE set up the Fund in partnership with Cancer Research UK to honour Bobby’s memory and to use his iconic status to save lives.  Since 1993, the Bobby Moore Fund has raised over £14 million. This money is used to fund world class scientific research, so that we can understand bowel cancer better and develop new and kinder treatments.

•    Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK

•    44 men and women die from bowel cancer every day

•    Bobby was just 51 years old when he died

Despite these frightening statistics, bowel cancer is a disease which is 90% treatable if diagnosed early.  The Bobby Moore Fund therefore works to raise the awareness of the disease, to ensure that more people recognise the high risk symptoms of bowel cancer and know to seek help.

In 2009, the Bobby Moore Fund worked with Team England to launch a high profile bowel cancer campaign ‘There is Moore to know’.  Campaigns such as these will save lives in Bobby’s name.

We receive no government funding for our work and therefore rely 100% on the generosity and support of our Partners and supporters.  Each year we organise a range of high profile celebrity events, including our Golf Day, Sports Ball and Celebrity Sports Quiz.  The Fund also takes supporters to Brazil and Africa to rebuild poor schools and leave behind football facilities for the children.  Each participant raises £4,000 to go on the project.
