Match Report

Town ended 2025 with an impressive 2-0 win at Coventry City in the Sky Bet Championship.

It was an even start at the CBS Arena, with Town’s first effort at goal coming on 10 minutes when Jacob Greaves’ cross from the left was met by Ivan Azon whose header was well held by Carl Rushworth.

Town continued to push forward in search of an opener and went close again in the 22nd minute when Sindre Walle Egeli’s wide delivery wasn’t dealt with, leaving Jack Clarke to lash his first-time effort wide of the target.

Just a minute later the Blues broke upfield through Greaves who played the ball forward towards Ivan Azon, who cut onto his right foot inside the area and forced the ‘keeper into a comfortable save down to his left.

Town limited the hosts’ chances and created one themselves in the 39th minute when Darnell Furlong’s deep cross was met by Greaves at the back post whose diving header was saved.

The Blues were denied again a minute later when Clarke got down the left and pulled the ball back to Jack Taylor on the edge, but his first-time strike was brilliantly saved by Rushworth who tipped the shot onto the underside of the bar.

Frank Lampard’s side almost went ahead just after the restart when Ephron Mason-Clark’s ball in from the left came out to Victor Torp just outside the area, but Greaves was well placed to make the block.
