Psychological performance and mindset are central to sustaining leadership in modern football and the LMA continues to see managers and coaches as performers in their own right. Guided by the mental health continuum, we have deepened our commitment to not only support our members and their relatives in critical and challenging moments, but also to provide a range of support and coaching focused on mental skills, performance optimisation and flourishing.
The LMA’s performance psychology support is grounded in established sport and organisational psychology and is designed to help managers understand and refine their own mental skills for optimal performance. Through one-to-one support, workshops and structured learning, members can acquire the necessary skills to operate at the elite level, translating psychological concepts into practical tools that support day-to-day decision-making and long-term leadership.
“The support has helped me put into place processes that give me confidence and reassurance, that I am ready for everything. It has been a true game changer for me.”

Performance psychology clinics provide confidential one-to-one sessions focused on developing the mental skills required to perform consistently in the role, such as attention, confidence, and emotional regulation under pressure. Working with an experienced performance psychologist, managers and coaches can reflect on real situations from their practice, translate psychological insight into practical tools, and strengthen their leadership approach over time.
Throughout the season the LMA Institute of Leadership and High Performance runs a programme of full day, face-to-face masterclasses at professional football and elite sport venues around the country.
