The volatility, scrutiny, organisational challenges and role complexity that characterise football management can, at times, have negative consequences for mental health. Stress, anxiety, burnout and low mood can be common experiences across the management and coaching workforce and may also affect the families and close relationships of those in the role.
The LMA’s mental health service is a flexible and bespoke response to these realities, designed to meet the individual requirements of each member and, where appropriate, their relatives. A team of specialist psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health practitioners provide confidential,
1-to-1 support, urgent care and structured programmes aimed at moving individuals away from crisis, strengthening coping strategies, and supporting longer-term flourishing.
Guided by a mental health continuum, this service provides urgent critical care and mental health referrals, delivers programmes to help individuals move away from crisis and struggle, and offers support in specific areas including bereavement, relationship breakdown, addiction and behaviour change, and self‑awareness.
“Having had my own personal issues with wellbeing in the past ten years, the help and support I have received from the LMA in this area has been first class.”
