Match Report

Sunderland announced themselves on the big stage with an emphatic 3-0 victory over West Ham United at the Stadium of Light in what was another day to remember on Wearside.

Eliezer Mayenda, Dan Ballard and Wilson Isidor were the goalscoring heroes in the second half on a momentous occasion for the Lads and the supporters as they announced their return to the top-flight in style.

Régis Le Bris’ first starting eleven of the season handed debuts to seven players. Captain Granit Xhaka led the team out whilst Robin Roefs, Reinildo, Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, Chemsdine Talbin and Simon Adingra made their first starts for the Club.

Jared Bowen carved out the game’s opening chance as he picked up possession in the attacking third, drove into the box before seeing his low shot palmed away by Robin Roefs.

Habib Diarra had Sunderland’s first chance of the game through Eliezer Mayenda’s flick opening up space inside the box. Diarra bared down on goal, but his shot was well-saved by Hermansen.
