Match Report
Everton ended reigning WSL champions Chelsea’s 31-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win at Kingsmeadow – the Toffees handing Sonia Bompastor’s side their first league loss in 585 days.
Honoka Hayashi’s first-half strike decided the fixture as Courtney Brosnan earned the Player of the Match award with a sublime performance in goal.
After ending the West Londoners' lengthy streak, players and staff celebrated in front of the buoyant away end as fans lapped up the incredible day.
Head coach Brian Sorensen named an unchanged XI from the side that cruised to a 3-1 victory against Newcastle United in the League Cup last time out.
Brosnan was trusted in between the sticks, with a backline of Hikaru Kitagwa, Martina Fernandez, Ruby Mace, and Rion Ishikawa in front of her. Hayashi and Clare Wheeler operated deeper in midfield, allowing Yuka Momiki to roam slightly higher up the field.
Kelly Gago led the line, with Ornella Vignola and Toni Payne lining the flanks. Aurora Galli was named on the bench – the Italian making the matchday squad for the first time this season after recovering from an ACL injury.
