The role of a modern football manager or coach is ever-evolving. Today’s managers and coaches now operate in highly complex organisations, and are required to perform a multi-faceted role under intense pressure and scrutiny. To ensure its members are equipped with the tools and knowledge to meet these challenges, the LMA continues to adapt, improve and elevate its approach to learning and career development.

As part of the visit, members were provided with the opportunity to:
- Have an in-depth tour of the NATC operational facility to see first-hand the Operational Team’s processes and methodology
- Take part in an engaging Q&A session with the Head of Training at National Air Traffic Control
- Hear career reflections and insights from the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Team
Crucially, the attendees were encouraged to recognise and understand the many parallels that can be drawn between the work carried out by the NATS team and football management and coaching. This included the importance of effective communication, situational awareness and decision-making.
Jake Henry, Coach Development Manager, commented: “We are always striving to identify new and exciting ways in which we can enhance and improve the learning and career development opportunities we provide to our members. This latest example has been a brilliant experience for our members and they’ve learnt a lot about the intricacies of operating in fast-paced, pressurised environments and how they can apply those principles in their own coaching careers.
“I’d like to thank the team at the National Air Traffic Control centre for hosting us and providing with such fascinating insight and learning opportunities. The feedback we’ve had from our members who attended has been fantastic and we look forward to delivering more of these unique experiences.”
