LMA Perform Short Course: Second Cohort Launched

LMA LAUNCHES THE SECOND COHORT OF ITS INTERACTIVE ONLINE SHORT COURSE TO MEMBERS, LMA PERFORM.

In line with World Mental Health Day’s focus this year on access to services and priority of mental health in the workplace, this week the LMA has launched the 2nd cohort of its LMA Perform online short course.

Cohort 2 follows a successful pilot programme delivered earlier in the year to 25 LMA members. The course delivers 6 modules, via fortnightly online interactive sessions, supplemented by a programme of activities for individuals to interact with between sessions.

LMA Perform is guided by the Mental Health Continuum, addressing the topics of mental illness, struggling and crisis, helping individuals build the coping mechanisms and resilience needed to face and respond to difficult challenges. The programme also recognises the importance of developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours that set the foundations for individuals to move towards flourishing and optimal performance.

The programme, designed and delivered by a number of globally recognised psychologists including, Dr Peter Olusoga, Dr Mustafa Sarkar, Katie Mobed and Steve Johnson, represents the LMA’s commitment to combining cutting edge research and academia with the real world challenges of managing and coaching at the elite level of sport.

The six programme modules are:

  • Understanding Your Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • The Brain and Body: Applications For Life
  • Recognising Stress and Burnout
  • Change and Emotional Regulation
  • Gold Mark Resilience
  • Deep Beneath Performance

LMA Member Micky Mellon, who participated in Cohort 1, said “I have done lots of courses previously but LMA Perform has been the biggest help and it’s truly amazing what I have learnt and I will continue to reflect back on the content throughout my managerial career”

LMA Member Lisa Fallon, who also participated in Cohort 1, said “The course was outstanding, and it helped me to further develop and enhance my understanding of the subject and myself.”

LMA Chief Executive Richard Bevan OBE added: “The LMA recognises the complexities and challenges inherent in managing and coaching in elite football. To that end we strive every day to deliver a programme of support services, education and personal development that can help our members survive and thrive throughout their careers.

"In addition to our programme of world class, 1-to-1, confidential mental health support available to all our members 24/7, the LMA Perform online short course is an important enhancement to our offering.
